 Dear Marion,
I was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer the day before my birthday
2015.  Part of the treatment regimen is daily radiation sessions for 30
days. I was told by the doctor and technicians that I could expect external
skin damage from the treatment.  It was described to me as a very bad
sunburn that very likely would end in blistering and possibly a significant
amount of discomfort.  My sister had heard from a friend about the magic
blanket and contacted you to find out if it could work in my case, (wrapped
around my neck).  I used the blanket after every treatment and I had
absolutely no external burns, I had almost no discomfort on the skin around my neck.  All of the doctors, the Radiologist, Oncologist and my surgeon were very surprised that I had no burns on my neck.  Cancer treatment is uncomfortable enough, do yourself a favor get the blanket and use it as directed.    from Joe - Port Townsend, WA.

October 2015 - From  Joan -- Northern California

 My brother Joe used "Marion's Magical Blanket" to reduce the side effects of radiation while undergoing treatment for throat cancer. He was told to be prepared for a six month recovery period following his treatments, that he would experience blistering and burning on the inside and outside of his throat which would affect his ability to swallow and that his hearing and sense of taste would likely be impaired. "Marion's Magical Blanket" was brought to our attention midway through Joe's treatment and in spite of his getting a late start, he experienced surprising results. He did not blister and the burns were minimal in comparison to what had been described to him. Initially, he couldn't swallow, but his throat healed much more quickly than expected. He continues to patiently wait for his sense of taste to normalize. All in all, he believes "Marion's Magical Blanket" was effective in minimizing the side effects of radiation for him.

 The "magic blanket" seemed to help me quite a lot.  I could feel that the heat was less in the morning.  As I was using the blanket I recommended "Marion's magic blanket" it to every woman I met at radiation.  I practiced the old Kindergarten method of "Show and Tell" by bringing the blanket with me to my daily treatment sessions.  Truly, I can not imagine what I would have gone through if I had not used the "magic blanket".  I wore the blanket every day, all day (except for my radiation treatment time); and on the weekends wore it the full two days for all 48 hours. 
Everyone going through a course of radiation should use this blanket to pull out as much heat as possible; since the radiation works at a very deep level in the tissues.  The doctors and nurses who looked at my chest following seven weeks of radiation were amazed at how healthy my skin was.  Even during the prior weeks they were amazed that my skin did not turn as bright red as other patients going through radiation therapy.  I actually didn't find any other women who had six weeks of radiation with another week of target radiation for the surgical scar area.  By the time I finished all seven weeks, it was a rather intense experience.

"What a wonderful blanket Marion, each time after receiving radiation treatments for breast cancer I would put on the blanket, wrap up in the ace bandage to help secure it, and kept it there for the day and sometimes slept with it on all night!   My favorite comment from the radiation oncology doctor and her  "techs" "Wow it looks like your skin is tolerating this treatment quite well".  I am a blue eyed, grey headed, very pale skin 60+ grandmother.  I have always burned when exposed to sunlight, so to not burn or turn red from radiation was a miracle, thanks to "Marion's Magic Blanket".

"The last time I went in for a recheck by my surgeon, he asked me if I had had my full radiation treatment because my skin was in such good shape.  Right after the surgery I had
an awful reaction to the tape they used.  I knew I had a tape allergy, just didn't know I had a TAPE ALLERGY!..They had to put me on prednisone to clear it up and there was still some
residual redness when I started radiation.  That's actually why I was looking for something to help with the treatment burns... I knew , just knew, I was going to have real problems with my
skin.  Anyway, I told my doctor that I had used your magic blanket.  He raised his eyebrow and said " Tell me more.  You're teaching me something I don't know about."  I told him about the
special fabric and how it works and then, when I got home, copied your stuff about it on line and took it back to his office so he could read more about it.  Don't know where it's gone from
there with him, but if you're getting more orders from central Iowa than you did, that might be why.  I am glad to help sing praises of your blanket .
Have you ever considered adding a little flap to the blanket that would come up under the arm?  That's the only place where I had problems and I could never really keep it covered

Note: Because of Sue's suggestion, we are exploring ways to add the flap she mentioned, so our new blankets may look a bit different.  I'd like to have someone see if it works better
and is not too cumbersome under the arm.  If you are ordering a blanket and want to be a "test patient" for the new design -- please let us know.

"Hi Marion:  My sister Clare has started her treatment and is using her healing (Magic) blanket, fo far she has had 4 treatments and so far no burns.
The room where the treatment is delivered is kept cool because of the machine, so her solution was to cut an appropriate hole in a long sleeved t-shirt - Problem Solved lol.
They play music during the treatment and asked her if she had any requests.  The Marvelous Toy Song reminded her of the sounds the machine made - It went "Zip" when it moved and "Pop" when it stopped "Whirr" when it stood still, I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.   And when she woke up one morning with lyrics from Jesus Christ Superstar going through her head  - "Don't you know - Everything's alright-Yes everything's fine-And we want you to sleep well tonight"."

"Hello Marion,  Thank you so much for the opportunity to use your "magic blanket."  I would encourage everyone facing radiation to try it.  For me, a redhead with fair skin, I am certain that it was helpful.  I did not burn on my breast area!  But did burn from the radiation to the clavical area.  I was not wearing it immediately after radiation, but did so with several hours afterward.  One of the things I really noticed, especially toward the end, was how it seemed to pull the heat out of my chest, which made me feel better overall.  I cn't thank you enough.  This "blanket" made a tough treatment much more bearable.  May God bless you for sharing with others, as you are doing.  Sincerely, Debi G. - Paso Robles, California, USA."

Dear Marion: Thank you so much for the use of your Magic Blanket.  It really helped me during my treatment.  I took it with me to treatment and when I got in the car to leave I would put it under my top as I drove home.  I wore it as often as I could in the day time.  I also found that at night when my skin felt warm I would use it as I slept, it really helped.  Using it brought the heat from the radiation out of the skin.  I am very fair skinned.  My radiologist was very happy with my skin appearance during treatment.  The combination of your Magic Blanket witht he lotion made the treatment so much more bearable.  I know anyone else who uses this will benefit from your kindness.  Love & Hugs, Sharon B. - Oceanside, California, USA

Dear Marion: The material that has become known as "Marion's Magic Blanket" is truly amazing.  I was diagnosed with cancer in December 2006, it was abdominal cancer, but after speaking to you about my upcoming radiation, you convinced me to try the blanket.  I am normally skeptic, but when faced with many sessions of radiation to my lower abdomen, I was not looking foward to any type of radiation burns, which I knew would be caused by the treatment.  You instructed me on how to use the blanket, and I can only say that it was a "magic blanket".  I am in my 70's, and had never heard of anything like this before, and because I am overweight, and have a belly that we laughingly call "Done-Lop-Over", you told me that where I would probably have the most problem was where my belly "done-lopped-over" creating a crease which the blanket could not touch, unless I could somehow secure it up into the creases.  When I finished my radiation, you were right, the only place I had radiation burns, was where my belly "done-loped-over, otherwise my abdomen showed no signs of burning, although I did become a bit pink.  I have no idea how this fabric works, but truthfully I don't care - all I know is - IT WORKED FOR ME!  Thank you so much for being there for me when I needed information that the doctors did not know about.  Sincerely,  Bill R. - Hemet, California USA

Dear Marion:  You and I have been in our local cancer group for several years, and when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I knew you would be there for me.  They advised me that radiation was needed, and I knew that you had used your "magic blanket" during your radiation, with great success, and I also am thankful that you loaned it to me.  I had my treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center, and after a couple of weeks of radiation the doctors were totally amazed that I was not burning.  The medical students came to examine my skin,( some with magnifying glasses) and said that they could see me burning, but I was healing as fast as it was burning, which they could not understand.   I explained to them that this fabric we used is "magic".  Now you know western doctors - especially at a well known hospital like Loma Linda.  Even after you wrote the story about the fabric,  they still could not believe that this "Marion's Magic Blanket" worked,  but I KNOW IT DID!!   I have told many cancer patients about this blanket and they have also used it with great success.  That just proves again -- doctors don't know everything!!!

 UPDATE: 2023 - To date over 500 patients have used our "Magic Blanket" and report that they are thrilled with the results and have told other patients about their experience.  We have been making custom blankets for men having throat cancer radiation, with excellent results and we also make them for other types of cancers. 

This material has helped to either stop completely or minimize the burns.

I know this will sound absolutely crazy to you, but this is the story of what has become known as "Marion's Magic Blanket".  While I was in treatment in 2000, my oncologist suggested I contact a company in Massachusetts, I became friends with one of the girls there and she told me that  she and her associates at a cancer center in Massachusetts had found that they were able to almost eliminate the radiation burns, by using a product that she could get for me. It was still in the testing stage, but they had first tested it on people with severe sunburns, and those individuals did not blister, or peel, and the heat from the sunburn would be almost gone the next day, after putting this material on their bodies for several hours.
The way it was described to me was as follows, however I have not been able to find anywhere any actual documentation of this story, but all I know is that I am a blue eyed, fair skinned woman, who sunburns after 15 minutes in the sun at the beach, and living in Florida for 25 years, I had plenty of sunburns to know the pain that lasted for days.

The story as I was told and my experiences:
NASA was trying to develop a material that could be used for underwear for the astronauts, that would protect them from excessive heat in the spacecraft upon re-entry. If the body temperature rose to dangerous levels, this material had to dissipate the heat, and spread it over the fibers (Ceramic fibers) of the material, and thereby reduce the body's temperature for survival.
When this product came on the market, as a household "blanket" used for normal household use, (the husband is always cold, and the wife is always hot) this blanket served the purpose of transferring this heat, and making them both comfortable by simple heat transfer thru the ceramic fibers.
This blanket cannot be washed, because it would destroy the fibers, it must be dry cleaned only.
The folks who were dealing with the "sunburned guys", came to the conclusion that maybe it would work the same way for radiation burns, so they began testing various skin types, and found that for the most part, most patients did not burn, when they used the blanket for several hours after each radiation treatment.
I had 35 radiation treatments and my doctor , at first looked at me like I was insane, but after 3 weeks of treatment, he was absolutely shocked that I was "not even pink".
He soon became a skeptical believer, that something had made the difference, since my fair skin, should have had burns by the time I finished radiation treatment - 7 weeks later.
At no time during this whole treatment did I develop burns, except thru my own carelessness.
I had to wear my bra one day, and the rubbing of the elastic against the lower part of my left chest, caused the skin to break down, and blister. I am positive that if I had not done that, I would have been free of all burns due to the radiation treatments I received. After every treatment, I would come home, use large quantities of Aloe & Vitamin E cream, on the radiated area, then I would put on a very lightweight t-shirt, and then put the "magic blanket" on over the t-shirt, and secure it with a 6" ace bandage. I would wear this blanket every day for minimum of 4 hours. Since the material is not washable, the T-shirt absorbed the cream, and allowed me to use the blanket without constant dry cleaning, since I needed it every day.
I continued to wear the blanket for several weeks after my treatment, as my doctor advised me that the radiation will continue to "accumulate" for several weeks after finishing treatment.
I am not egocentric enough to name the blanket after myself, my Radiation Oncologist named it for me, and to this day he is  still amazed at my experience with it, when I see him he always says, "oh I remember you didn't burn - Marion's magic blanket" and I tell him YOU BET!!!.
This blanket has been used by several many women and a man who had abdominal surgery for Colon cancer , none of whom burned    The gal in Massachusetts is still working with the group and more experiments are being conducted on other uses of this product.
I KNOW that this sounds really weird to a "traditional medical doctor", but unless you see it work for yourself, you will never understand what it means not to suffer radiation burns after treatment.
The best results have been obtained when the fabric is worn for several hours after each
treatment some of my "girls" tell me they wear it to bed and it also helps with "hot flashes", and then continued to wear it after the treatments end - as radiation still has the capability of burning for days or weeks after the last treatment.  

This product is NOT sanctioned by any doctors, as it is NOT approved by the FDA, and therefore no medical doctor will suggest that it be used.

We have been able to obtain the very expensive fabric and we custom make the blanket to accommodate the radiation fields that are being done.  Because we custom make each one along with a cover that must be used each time, we are able to provide a size and configuration to accommodate just about any part of the body that is being externally radiated.  These are not commercially produced, Marion makes each one herself, and will advise you personally if you have any questions or concerns about configuration or size.  We do not give medical advice, we can only tell you what has worked for us and our many patients who have used the blanket. We have many patients worldwide using the blanket, for many types of cancer radiation treatments, including prostate, salivary gland, brain, throat, esophageal, lung, as long as it is external radiation the blanket can be used.  Internal seed implants it will not help.
